Worcester's Wormtown Brewery takes top
honor in the 2014 U.S. Open Beer Championship

The Wormtown Brewery beat out powerhouses of the brewing world such as
Samuel Adams, Stone Brewing, Yuengling and Saranac Brewing to take home the
title of Grand National Champion in the 2014 U.S. Open Beer Championship.
“We try our best to make the best beers we can and to get that recognition
on the national level is icing on the cake," said Wormtown Brewery Master
Brewer Ben Roesch. "The brewing team all really works hard and to have us
all be recognized like this is something great to cherish.”

Green Bench, Cigar City bag international beer awards(Tampa Bay Business
Journal) - Tampa Bay’s craft beer scene continues to soak up accolades.
Green Bench Brewing Co. of St. Petersburg was named one of the Top 10
Breweries in the 2014 U.S. Open Beer Championship. It also won awards in
flavor categories: Saison de Banc Vert scored a gold for Aged
Wood/Barrel-aged Pale Beer; French Oak Rye Sour Brown took top prize for
Wood/Barrel-Aged Sour Beer; Jerry’s Birthday Batch brought home a bronze for
Experimental Beer. Tampa’s Cigar City Brewing bagged four golds: Zhukov’s
Imperial Stout in the Imperial Stout category; Cigar City Brunch for Cream
Stout; Cuban Espresso for Coffee Beer; and Cigar City Homemade Apple Pie for
Texas brewers dominate US Open Beer Championship(Press-Registar) -
Breweries from Texas dominated the 2014 U.S. Open Beer Championship, with
three of that state's entries landing in the top 10. Massachusetts was the
only other state with multiple overall winners. Wormtown Brewery, of
Worcester, Mass., was the overall winner in the contest, which bills itself
as the only competition that is open to both professional brewers and
home-brewers. No Alabama brewers were among the winners. More than 3,000
entries were judged by beer experts from England, Canada, Finland and the
Kräftig wins gold again at U.S. Open Beer Championship(STLToday) - For
the third consecutive year, Kräftig Light from Missouri-based William K.
Busch Brewing Company has won a gold medal in the "American Light" category
of the annual U.S. Open Beer Championships. The brewery's flagship beer,
Kräftig, also won gold this year in the "American Premium Lager" category of
the Atlanta-based awards.
Reuben’s Brews nets awards 2014 U.S. Open Beer Championship(Seattle) - A
family-owned Ballard brewery took home high marks at 2014 U.S. Open Beer
Championship. Rueben’s Brews (1406 NW 53rd St) tied for fourth place on the
list of Top 10 Breweries for 2014, its second top 10 finish in the
competition in as many years, after finishing sixth in 2013. Rueben’s was
the only Washington state brewery to make the Top 10.
Sprecher wins five awards at U.S. Open Beer Championship(Milwaukee
Business) - The brewery took home two gold, two silver and one bronze, tying
for fourth place overall among 272 breweries with more than 3,000 entries.
It was the only Wisconsin brewery in the top 10. The gold medals went to
Sprecher’s Irish Stout and Shakparo beers; the silver medalists were its
Summer Pils and Root Beer; and the bronze was awarded to Beyond Braggot.
Kona Medals at U.S. Open Beer Championship(Hawaii) - Kailua-Kona, Big
Island of Hawaii – Now in only its second year on the mainland, Kona Brewing
Company’s Big Wave Golden Ale has once again been decorated with a medal at
the 2014 U.S. Open Beer Championship held in Atlanta, GA this past weekend.
Judges at the competition blind sampled more than 3,000 beers in 81
different categories, with Big Wave Golden Ale emerging as the bronze medal
winner in the Sessions Beer category.

took place this month. Capital Brewery, Middleton, was named grand national
champion and Stevens Point Brewery placed third, according to the event's
website. The top 10 were determined by combining the points earned by a
company’s beers in each category that it finished in the top three.
Three DFW breweries awarded at U.S. Open Beer Championship(Dallas
Business Journal) - The 2013 U.S. Open Beer Championship honored three
Dallas-Fort Worth beer breweries July 4. The contest judged more than 2,500
beers from across the world in 68 different categories. The U.S. Open allows
both professional and home-brewers participation. Judges were from England,
Candada and the U.S. Dallas-based Community Beer Company and Peticolas
Brewing, and Fort Worth-based Rahr and Son were awarded for their entries.
Apocalypse Ale Works Wins Gold in International Competition(ABC 13
WSET-TV) - They beat them all out; Sam Adams, New Belgium, some of the best.
But now, the folks at Apocalypse Ale Works in Forest are gold medal winners.
The owners found out on the Fourth of July that they had placed first in the
Belgian Dubbel Ale category for the U.S. Beer Open Championship. This is an
international Beer competition with more than 2500 breweries competing.
Apocalypse Ale Work's Lustful Maiden is the medal winner.
Saranac Pale Ale, Adirondack Lager Take Gold at 2013 United States Open
Beer Championship(WCHN Central New York News) - Saranac Brewing’s Pale
Ale and Adirondack Lager were each awarded gold medals in the 2013 United
States Open Beer Championship this week in Atlanta. Pale Ale is Saranac’s
flagship brew that is rich and fruity with a crisp finish. The brewery
recently updated the brewing process for this classic favorite, using their
new “Hop Infusion Process” which maximized beer to hop exposure for a
fresher taste. Pair it with burgers, bread pudding and cheddar cheese.
Florida Shines at U.S. Open Beer Championship(The Daily City) -
Florida Beer Co. brought home the gold in the American Premium Lager
category for it's Florida Lager, while Cigar City brought gold in the
Chocolate/Cocoa Beer category with its Hunahpu's Imperial Stout. Orlando
Brewing won Bronze in the Best of Show Organic category with its Doble
Imperial IPA. All together, 5 Florida breweries placed in 7 categories.
Cigar City also made the top ten for the 'Most Creative Name' category with
their Hotter than Helles.

were announced earlier this week, and several Canadian breweries – or more

Florida Beer Company Wins Gold and Silver Medals at 2013 U.S. Open Beer

craft brewer recently competed in the prestigious 2013 U.S. Open Beer
Championship. Florida Beer Company is pleased to announce that its Florida
Lager was awarded the Gold Medal in the very competitive, Premium Lager
category and its Hurricane Reef Caribbean Pilsner took home the Silver Medal
in the Bohemian Pilsener category.
North Texas Brewers Rack Up Awards at US Open Beer Championship(Dallas
Observer) - Craft beer is shaking a knowing finger at all those artificial
trends, however. Yesterday the winners of the 2013 United States Open Beer
Championship were announced and North Texas collectively nailed a solid
landing off the pommel horse onto the mat of craft brewing distinction.
Community Beer Co., Peticolas and Rahr & Sons all had great showings, with
nine medals between the three breweries; including gold for the latter two.

lots of news this week for the August Schell Brewing Company. Schell's the
second oldest family-owned brewery in the country, and the brewer of
Schell's and Grain Belt beer in New Ulm, was honored with three medals in
the 2013 U.S. Beer Open Championship, for its Firebrick, Schell's Pils and
its Deer Brand beers.
Point Brewery wins 4 medals at U.S. championships(Green Bay Press
Gazette) - The Stevens Point Brewery won four medals at the 2013 United
States Open Beer Championships, held July 4 in Atlanta. Point Nude Beach
Summer Wheat Ale earned the gold medal in American Wheat category. Whole Hog
Wee Heavy Scotch Ale, which was introduced in May, won gold in the Scottish
Ale category, while Whole Hog Raspberry Saison won in the French/Belgian
Saison Ale category.

Hawaii Breweries Take 8 Medals at The US Open Beer Championship(Beer
In Hawaii) - It was an impressive showing at the US Open Beer Championship
for Hawaii breweries. Three Hawaii based breweries took home a total of
eight medals with Waimea based Big Island Brewhaus taking home five alone!
Big Island Brewhaus also placed 5th overall in total points. Maui Brewing
Company took home two medals and Kona Brewing Company took home one.
Badger Hill Wins Bronze in U.S. Open Beer Championship(Minnetonka
Patch ) - Badger Hill’s brews are already famous among local beer drinkers,
but now the company is getting some national attention. The Minnetonka
brewing company’s Minnesota Special Bitter won the bronze award in the ESB
category at the 2013 U.S. Open Beer Championship, the competition announced
SweetWater named Grand National Champion at the 2012 U.S. Open Beer

First Draught: Wellington Brewery’s Arkell Best Bitter(August 8) - Post City
Bitter is just British for “pale ale;” a term that distinguishes this very
popular class of beer from the even sweeter porters and stouts. Wellington’s
example tends to the dark, deep-copper end of the range. It smells of toast
with honey and sweet British desserts. The lightly-roasted malt flavour is
supported by a hint of woodsy hops. This beer was part of a trifecta of
Ontario entries that swept the Bitter category at the recent U.S. Open Beer
Championship. Butler’s Bitter from Niagara College and Neustadt’s Bitter
joined Wellington’s on the podium.

Sweetwater Brewing of Atlanta was named Grand National Champion at the 2012
U.S. Open Beer Championships in Atlanta. Sweetwater received the title by
winning three gold and three silver medals at the competition, which was
sponsored by Beer Connoisseur Magazine and BeerInfo.com. Boston Beer Co.,
makers of Samuel Adams, took second place honors, and last year’s winner,
Deschutes Brewery of Bend, Ore., took third.
Cigar City Brewing wins at U.S. Beer Open(August 3) - Creative
Tampa's own Cigar City Brewing placed fourth as one of the top breweries in
the country, based on the number of beers in the competition placing first,
second, or third. Cigar City Brewing was the only Florida brewery to place
in the top 10 overall.Cigar City's Barley Wine, Church on a Hill, won
silver. The Ligero Schwarzbier won bronze. Honahpu's Impertial Stout won
gold for the chocolate/cocoa beer category. Their Baltic Porter, Kalevipoeg
Baltic Porter, also won a gold medal.
COLORADO BREWERIES TAKE HOME 9 MEDALS IN 2012 US OPEN BEER CHAMPIONSHIP(August
2) - You may be wondering why beer competitions exist outside of the Great
American Beer Festival in the US… and I’d otherwise agree with you. However,
the US Open Beer Championship is a little different. It is the only beer
competition to pit professional breweries and award-winning homebrewers
against each other in the same class.
Sprecher wins 6 medals, places 8th in national beer championship (August

Sprecher Brewing Co. won six medals at the U.S. Open Beer Championship --
three gold and three bronze -- and was the only Wisconsin brewery to place
in the Top 10. The Glendale brewery was dubbed 8th best brewery overall.
Earning gold medals were Sprecher's Black Bavarian (in the schwarzbier
category), Dopple Bock (dopple/strong bock) and Chameleon Witty (Belgian
witbier). Earning bronze were Sprecher's Hooligan (English pale ale), Kriek

Big Bear Brewing Co. Wins Medals in U.S. Open Beer Championship(August

After judging more than 1,650 beers in over 65 categories -- well, after
that, the judges probably needed a day or two to sleep it off. But instead,
the judges of the United States Open Beer Championship rallied and announced
the winners. Local brewery and beer institution Big Bear Brewing Co. in
Coral Springs brought home three medals in three categories.
SanTan Brewing wins gold & bronze medals at U.S. Open Beer Championships(August

Downtown Chandler’s SanTan Brewing won two medals – one gold, one bronze –
at the U.S. Open Beer Championships in Atlanta. SanTan’s Epicenter took the

weekend in the state of Georgia.The New Ulm brewer took 7th place at the
U.S. Open Beer Championships.The brewery had five of their beers medal in
four different categories.There were over 700 entrants from professional
breweries to home brewers competing in fifty different categories.Schell's
Brewery's Jace Marti says, "We're not really out to make beers that just
will win awards. We make beers we like to drink and we hope other people
like to drink, so when we do win awards it's definitely a bonus."Competitors
came from around the world, and when your German Brew can beat breweries
from Germany, that's something to take pride in.Quality Control Manager Tom
Kaehler says, "They're amazed trying our beers compared to their home beers
too, how much similar they are, how much sometimes even better than they
are, so we're kind of proud of it."

More than 700 beers in 50 categories were submitted to the 2010 U. S. Open
Beer Championships. Maui Brewing Co. was named Grand National Champion by
winning two gold, five silver and two bronze. Sprecher Brewing and Deschutes
Capital Brewery among winners in Beer Championships - Wisconsin State
Capital Brewery won gold medals in the American Premium Lager category for
its recently released Supper Club and in the Bock category for its Capital
Mai Bock. The brewery also won bronze medals in the German Lager/Pilsner
category for its Capital Pilsner; in the Marzen/Oktoberfest category for its
Capital Fest and in the Dopple/Strong Bock category for its Eisphyre.
Medals and organic brews in eastern NC - Mountain Express
The U.S. Open Beer Championships took place Fourth of July weekend in
Atlanta, and one North Carolina brewery brought home two gold medals and a
bronze. Mother Earth Brewing won a gold medal in the German Kolsch
category for their Endless River Kolsch, a gold in the Dunkel category for
their Dark Cloud Munich-Style Dunkel, and a bronze in the IPA category for
their Sisters of the Moon. More than 700 beers in 50 different categories
were submitted to the championships.
City Brewery Wins Gold at U.S. Beer Championships - Lacrosse
Four Wisconsin breweries, including La Crosse's City Brewing Co., have taken
home gold medals from the U.S. Open Beer Championships in Atlanta. City
Brewing Co. won in the American Light category for its Game Day Light.

Maui Brewing of Hawaii was named Grand National Champion by winning two
gold, five silver, and two bronze medals. Sprecher Brewing of Wisconsin

Boston Beer Company a big winner at U.S. Open Beer Championships
The Boston Beer Company recently finished fourth with several medals in the
U.S. Open Beer Championships. The Maui Brewing Company of Hawaii was the
overall winner with the most medals, but Boston Beer Company, producers of
Samuel Adams, came in with quite a few medals.

Rahr Beer Wins Big at US Open Beer Tasting Competition(July 7) - Fort Worth
- We’ve just heard from our friends at Rahr Brewery in the Near Southside that
they’ve scored some big wins at the US Open Beer Tasting Competition. Blind
Salamander won the Gold in English-Style Pale Ale, Ugly Pug won Silver in German
Schwartz Beer, and Blonde won Bronze in Munich-Style Helles Lager. A big
congratulations to Rahr Brewing for the wins!
